the character of my name

And Gideon came to the Jordan and passed over, he and the three hundred men who were with him, faint yet pursuing. Judges 8:4 (RSV)

I am the God who called you into life. You were delivered from the hands of darkness and given food to sustain you. My hand of protection has not been withdrawn. You are free from the hand of the one who would kill you. He seeks to see you destroyed, miserable and hopeless. He lies in wait.

As sure as light dispels the darkness, I am with you to guard and direct your ways. Seek me at all times. Grow in your knowledge and experience of me, so I may impart more. Celebrate the victories, but do not become complacent. Do not allow the enemy a foothold into your thought-life. I am your God.

It is through my ways in you that the darkness is dispelled. Worship me, not what I have already done or I am doing. Come to me and not the result of my presence.

I am calling forth those who would cross over. Follow me with abandon and walk in the calling I have for you. Learn the authority released to those obedience. Walk in the character of my name.

And Gideon said to them, "Let me make a request of you; give me every man of you the earrings of his spoil." (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ish'maelites.) And they answered, "We will willingly give them." And they spread a garment, and every man cast in it the earrings of his spoil. And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was one thousand seven hundred shekels of gold; besides the crescents and the pendants and the purple garments worn by the kings of Mid'ian, and besides the collars that were about the necks of their camels. And Gideon made an ephod of it and put it in his city, in Ophrah; and all Israel played the harlot after it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and to his family. Judges 8:24-27 (RSV)
