He did not know

She said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" And he awoke from his sleep and said, "I will go out as at other times and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the LORD had departed from him. Judges 16:20 (NASB95)

Not all visitations are apparent. We need take care in our judgments and examine with the eyes and heart of the father. Sampson was a deliver. Even his birth was foretold as the Angel-of-the-Lord had interaction with his mother.

When his father sought God for guidance The Angel-of-the-Lord returned. He asked, “Please let the man of God whom You have sent come to us again that he may teach us what to do for the boy who is to be born.”

Samson was born and raised in the ways of God. His parents rightly raised him in the direction and fear of God. Even so, as individuals we have personal responsibility. We live by our own thoughts and decisions.

Are we found sleeping with the enemy? Do we allow our head to be found in the lap of the enemy? Even into his life of self-indulgence. Sampson was used by God to bring judgment of the Philistines, (Judges 14:4). He disgraced them by not only walking openly into their city, and sleeping with the prostitute. He took their city gates and moved them over 30 miles to Hebron.

If we can learn from example we should be careful. We too can lose our relation and anointing. Our outward condition is no reflection on our inward condition. Just because we “get away” with something, does not mean we will not bring judgment. Our vision too will be destroyed as we decay inwardly.

Don’t take my word, why not review the story? Read Judges 13:1-16:31 for yourself. View it again with new eyes. There is a quality found in Sampson we too should have. He is listed in the Hebrews 11:32 ‘Heroes of the faith’.

Don’t let it be said of you, “He did not know that the LORD had departed from him”.
