Pentecost - the waiting and release
“On
the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place.
Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm,
and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames
or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present
was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the
Holy Spirit gave them this ability.” Acts
of the Apostles 2:1-4 (NLT)
In
the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was
God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light
to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never
extinguish it.
John 1:1, 3-5 (NLT)
Sometimes
we wait. We expect something and then can become cynical or despondent. We
expected God to show himself. We cast doubt on the prophets who told us to
await something of Him, but nothing seems to have occurred.
Maybe
we missed that small beginning when we expected a mighty wind and tongues of
fire. Any way we process this He is God. He does not make errors. He protects
and clothes us in love. Holy Spirit is alive and active. He knows his
plans and his timing is perfect.
Jesus
was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time
some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the
newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to
worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2 (NLT)
And
while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to
her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a
manger, because there was no lodging available for them. Luke 2:6-7 (NLT)
